It is the first output of a two year study conducted by the King's Fund Primary Care Programme which will describe and evaluate the approaches to public involvement adopted by PCGs in the capital. The creation of PCGs included two formal mechanisms for public involvement: the appointment of a lay member to every PCG board and the requirement for open board meetings. However, the broader agenda requires that PCGs take account of local views, allow the public to participate in decision-making, communicate with stakeholders and foster opportunities for public involvement.
