It focuses on the use of evidence-based information to help people make choices when they, or those close to them, are in need of health care. The concepts of evidence-based medicine and  patient choice and the relationships between them are examined, followed by an overview of the various ways in which information can be given and presented to patients. A framework for appraising and developing research on EBPC is suggested. The report concludes that EBPC is a coherent concept which brings together two important movements within health care.
