employee opinion was an innovation in the hospital field and so it is hoped that it will be of interest to a wider audience than just the London Hospital Group as some of the results have implications of more general interest.  A small number of results from the survey are presented as they relate to issues of widespread interest in the hospital service.  Attention has been drawn to some wider implications of the overall view emerging from the survey. This document compares the results of the three surveys.  The general findings of this survey  indicate that noise is probably a greater cause of distress to patients in hospitals in 1973 than it was in 1960. In general patients seem to be prepared to accept those noises which appear to be inevitable or beyond the control of the hospital, but this type of noise only accounts for about a quarter of all complaints.
