An earlier series of events, ‘Do Doctors Have a Future?’ ran from May 2006 to April 2007\nand looked at the way that doctors viewed the challenges that they face.","Acquiring and ensuring a professional approach is a key part of becoming a doctor. But how can doctors define and adopt this professional attitude and ensure that it is kept up to date in the same way as their clinical skills? And how should professionalism adapt and change to reflect changing social values and attitudes? These questions were explored by The King’s Fund and the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) in 2005 and 2006 in a series of ‘road shows’. The findings from these events were reported on in 2008 in a joint publication: “Understanding Doctors: Harnessing professionalism”. To raise the issue of professionalism among the doctors of the future, we are working in partnership with the RCP, General Medical Council, the NHS Institute, the Centre for Excellence in Developing Professionalism, University of Liverpool, and the Student BMJ. Together we are hosting a series of events in medical schools around the country for medical students to debate, discuss and question the experts. “The 21st century doctor: Understanding the doctors of tomorrow” reports on the quality and insight of the next generation of young doctors."],"date_published_tesim":["2010"],"date_published_ssi":"2010","official_url_tesim":["http://www.kingsfund.org.uk/publications/articles/21st-century-doctor-understanding-doctors-tomorrow"],"place_of_publication_tesim":["London"],"creator_tesim":["The King's Fund","Shepherd, Susan","Levenson, Ros","Atkinson, Stephen"],"date_tesim":["2010"],"date_ssi":"2010","publisher_tesim":["The King's Fund"],"subject_tesim":["leadership","undergraduate medical education","professional behaviour","views","professional practice","medical staff","students"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/downloads/9g54xh64n?file=thumbnail","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-managing","admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_ids_ssim":["9g54xh64n"],"file_set_ids_ssim":["9g54xh64n"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Published Work"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["batchuser@example.com"],"nesting_collection__pathnames_ssim":["000096364"],"nesting_collection__deepest_nested_depth_isi":1,"_version_":1714884671793266688,"timestamp":"2021-10-28T17:17:47.088Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2021-10-27T23:06:03Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2021-10-28T15:03:22Z","has_model_ssim":["PublishedWork"],"id":"000110571","accessControl_ssim":["2b3af58f-3601-4730-beaa-d5ac23821894"],"hasRelatedMediaFragment_ssim":["0p0966902"],"hasRelatedImage_ssim":["0p0966902"],"depositor_ssim":["batchuser@example.com"],"depositor_tesim":["batchuser@example.com"],"title_tesim":["Revalidation : the early experiences and views of responsible officers from London."],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2021-10-27T23:06:03Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2021-10-28T14:14:03Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"biblionumber_tesim":["110571"],"abstract_tesim":["This paper summarises the results of a small research study designed to capture the experiences of and reflections on revalidation of responsible officers (ROs) in London. The key findings are: about one in four of the doctors in the survey (24 per cent) believe that the proposed reforms will improve the quality of the patient care provided by their organisation or practice; 22 per cent of the doctors we surveyed believe that the NHS will be able to maintain its focus on increasing efficiency while implementing the proposed reforms; and, more positively for the government, over 60 per cent of the GPs who responded think that there are GPs in their area with the capacity to lead GP commissioning consortia, though only 31 per cent of hospital doctors believe this to be the case.
