Abstract

On March 24, 1923, the Voluntary Hospitals Commission wrote to the King's Fund, referring to a question and answer given in the House of Commons on Wednesday, March 21, on the subject of hospital accommodation for accident cases, and asking that the King's Fund, as the Voluntary Hospitals Committee for London, would take the matter into their consideration in conjunction with the local Voluntary Hospitals committees surrounding the Metropolitan area, and furnish the Commission with the result of their considerations. The terms of reference for the King's Fund were `to inquire and report to the President and General Council on the methods at present employed for ascertaining where bed accommodation is available at hospitals in the metropolitan and neighbouring areas for accident cases requiring admission, and on the proposal that daily reports of vacant beds should be supplied to the police and ambulance authorities and to make such consequential recommendations as they may consider desirable.'
