The major aim of this directory has been to concentrate on organisations working in the health area. Several of the social welfare type of organisations have been included for two reasons. Firstly, because many organisations, although not set up to deal specifically with problems of illness or handicap, nevertheless operate in this area. Secondly, because there is no real boundary between social and medical problems. Emphasis has been placed on organisations offering practical help or advice, thereby excluding those solely interested in research or pressure group activities.
