Abstract

The importance of `bonding' between an infant and its parents and how this process can be made or marred by the attitudes of staff and methods of organisation was the focal point of this conference. Discussion covered topics such as how staff can best prepare relatives for their first encounter with the special care baby unit and the questions of research to improve relationships in the unit and overcoming difficulties in getting access to research findings and implementing them. Statistical tables are included in the appendix to the report.
