Abstract
This briefing paper is part of the King's Fund Centre's effort to promote good mental health services for all members of the community. Serious attention needs to be paid to the development of services which address the needs of a multi-racial society. Two papers submitted to the Department of Health have been edited together to produce this document. It provides a brief summary of the major gaps in the provision of mental health services for people from black and minority groups, and suggests guidelines for consulting people from these communities about the development of better mental health services, particularly in the context of the specific grants which the government is making available as part of its community care programme.
