Abstract

The conference addressed the problem of how to move towards a better quality of residential services for adults with learning difficulties. Ways of measuring the quality of life were discussed, including a `checklist of needs' to be used when assessing a residential service. From visits to 100 places where people with learning difficulties live, seven features which affect quality of life were identified. The ENCOR approach to residential services for people with learning difficulties is also described.
